Senior Estimator | Major Pipeline & Oil and Gas

Randstad is currently partnering with a prominent National Civil Contractor to appoint a Senior Estimator in their Melbourne office.

This organisation is expanding its Major Pipeline Construction arm to meet growing demand in the Oil & Gas sector. You will be joining a rapidly scaling business unit within an ASX-listed company.


The Role

As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for leading the financial and technical tender process for high-value pipeline projects. Your focus will be on ensuring cost accuracy for complex civil earthworks and mechanical installations within a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end estimation process for major oil and gas civil packages and national pipeline projects.
  • Conduct detailed first-principles estimating for trenching, welding, coating, and testing phases.
  • Interpret and apply rigorous compliance standards including AS4041 (Pressure Piping) and AS2885 (Pipelines—Gas and Liquid Petroleum).
  • Collaborate with engineering and project teams to assess site-specific risks and constructability issues.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure market competitiveness and technical alignment.
  • Present final costings and risk assessments to the executive leadership team for approval.
  • Engage with clients during the post-tender phase to clarify technical specifications and project methodology.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as an Estimator within the Australian civil construction or oil and gas sectors.
  • Deep technical knowledge of pipeline construction methodologies and specialist machinery.
  • Proven proficiency in working with AS2885 and AS4041 contract codes and technical standards.
  • Advanced skills in industry-standard estimating software (such as Expert Estimation or Candy).
  • Strong understanding of Victorian safety and environmental regulations pertaining to energy infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • High level of commercial acumen and the ability to articulate financial risks in a technical context. 🏗️
